新年快乐 – Happy Chinese New Year! All hell broke loose starting at about 8 PM last night, ushering in the Year of the Tiger at 12 midnight.
On Monday I spent an afternoon in Dujiangyan, about 50 km outside Chengdu, the site of a 2,000-year-old irrigation and flood-control project now listed as a World Heritage site.
The sun was out, but it was a gray, hazy sunlight that didn’t cast many shadows. Nonetheless, I got some decent shots of my favorite part of the walk, up a steep hillside and past temples and ancient gates and fragments of city wall. Most of the temples are being reconstructed, after devastating effects of the 2008 earthquake.
By the way, I’ve decided that this is the last of my “day trips;” the 2 1/2-hour travel time each way by combined city and long-distance buses left my mind numbed and my butt aching. There has to be a better way.
